Clinical Station Areas

Communication

Explaining diagnosis, uncertainty, consent, safeguarding, breaking bad news and counselling parents.

Clinical Examination

Cardiac, respiratory, abdominal, neurological, musculoskeletal and neonatal examination practice.

Development

Developmental milestones, red flags, parental concerns and developmental assessment approach.

Safety & Ethics

Safeguarding, confidentiality, capacity, escalation, MDT working and safe clinical judgement.

How to Approach the Clinical Exam

1. Be Safe First

Always think about patient safety, red flags, safeguarding and when to escalate.

2. Speak Simply

Use clear language with parents and children. Avoid jargon unless you explain it.

3. Practise Structure

Use a clear structure for history, examination, summary and management plan.

4. Stay Calm

The exam tests communication and judgement, not perfection. Pause, think and answer safely.

Important: In clinical exam, kindness and clarity matter. Examiners want to see a safe paediatric doctor.

  2. Is it OK for an Indian Expatriate to appear for clinical exam in UK? If OK, which center is usually having good pass percentage score? What are the usual clinical cases, communication and history scenarios in UK exam?

  3. Are you based in UK? You can give exam any where in the world. However, the center accepts application from the local candidates first. There is no good or bad pass percentage score for the centers and at the same time it is very difficult to say about usual cases. You have to prepare all the common cases to confidently pass the exam.
